Join us for a walking tour of Harmony Cemetery by the Georgetown Historical Society at 92 Central St., in Georgetown.

Harmony Cemetery was laid out in concentric circles surrounding a central watchtower. The first burial was in 1831 and the cemetery is still in active use. Find out about that watchtower and hear some stories about those buried here including members of the Beecher family (prominent in American media in the 19th century). The Tenneys, including Fred Tenney, pro baseball player with the Boston Beaneaters, and women who were prominent influencers in the community. Also discussed will be the particular challenges of finding specific graves in this cemetery and cemeteries in general when doing genealogical research.
