Virtual Program: Explore the Life and Times of St. Patrick

Examine the historical record of St. Patrick presented by Sean Murphy on Thursday, March 17 at 11AM via Zoom based on available facts and accepted understandings, and examine the historical context of his mission in Ireland. This includes a review of the development of Irish society prior to his arrival, an overview of the history of Christianity in England and Ireland, an examination of the crises in Europe as the Roman Empire collapsed and how this impacted the situation in Ireland in the fourth and fifth centuries.

Virtual Program: Living in Tough Times (MOBA)

Join us for a fun evening with the Museum of Bad Art of Boston on Monday, March 14 at 7PM via Zoom.

MOBA is the world’s only museum dedicated to preserving a collection , exhibiting and celebrating bad art in all of its forms. Let’s face it. The past two years has been tough. MOBA has put together a program that explores how art helps us through this global pandemic, climate change, and political upheaval. MOBA’s Curator in Chief, Michael Frank, will be presenting.

Virtual Program: Mighty Storms of New England

WBZ Chief Meteorologist Eric Fisher will discuss his new book, Mighty Storms of New England: The Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Blizzards, and Floods that Shaped the Region, on Thursday, March 10 at 7PM via Zoom.

The New England landscape has long been battered by some of the most intense weather in US history. Discover the legendary storms that have devastated New England, including: the Great New England Hurricane of 1938 that killed 564 people; the Worcester Tornado of 1953; the Snow Hurricane of 1804 that demolished orchards and killed dozens of sailors off the coast; and the Blizzard of 1978 that brought Boston to a standstill for weeks.

Eric Fisher is Chief Meteorologist for CBS Boston’s WBZ-TV News and anchors weather segments weeknights at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m., as well as WBZ-TV News at 10 p.m. on TV38 (WSBK-TV). He is also a contributor for CBS News, often found reporting on breaking severe weather across the country.

Enjoy a delightful culinary tour of the UK inspired by “The Great British Baking Show” television series, aired on PBS on Wednesday, February 9 at 7PM via Zoom. Even the trickiest parts of British recipes will be translated for Americans so you can try them in your own kitchen.

Virtual Program: The Epic Adventures of a Massachusetts Bird Photographer

Award-winning nature photographer Peter Christoph presents a narrated slideshow of his favorite bird photographs all taken right here in Massachusetts where he lives via Zoom on Wednesday, January 26 at 11 AM. His program is both entertaining and informative as he shares stories of his photographic adventures and the techniques he uses to capture his images as well as his favorite places to take photos of birds in their natural habitat. 

Christoph is a well-known speaker who has presented to the Photographic Society of America (PSA), New England Camera Club Council (NECCC,) and the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), in addition to Mass Audubon, the National Wildlife Refuge System, numerous camera clubs, birding clubs, and libraries. The past president of the Camera Club of Central New England, Christoph has received many prestigious national and international awards and medals. Virtual Program: Barry Van Dusen (‘Finding Sanctuary’)

Join author and artist Barry Van Dusen for a presentation on his latest book, “Finding Sanctuary: An Artist Explores the Nature of Mass Audubon,” via Zoom on Monday, November 22 at 7 PM. Van Dusen was recently recognized by the Massachusetts Center for the Book as one of Massachusetts’s must-read authors of the year.

About The Book: Over the course of four-and-a-half years, nature artist Barry Van Dusen visited all 61 of Mass Audubon’s public wildlife sanctuaries, nature centers, and museums, producing drawings and paintings at each location. Follow his travels and share in his adventures—from the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket to the mountain peaks of the Berkshires. Learn about hatching turtles on Cape Cod, rare orchids in the Connecticut River Valley, and a bear encounter in a western Massachusetts forest. Birders, naturalists, conservationists, gardeners, artists, art appreciators, and all outdoor folks will enjoy this presentation.

About The Author: Barry W. Van Dusen is an internationally recognized wildlife artist living in central Massachusetts. His articles and paintings have been featured in Bird Watcher’s Digest, Birding, and Yankee magazines and he has illustrated a variety of natural history books and pocket guides in association with the Massachusetts Audubon Society. In 1994 Barry was elected a full member of London’s Society of Wildlife Artists. His work has been exhibited regularly in the prestigious Birds in Art Exhibition (Wausau, Wisconsin) as well as in many galleries in the United States and Europe. At the invitation of the Artists for Nature Foundation, Barry has travelled to Spain, Ireland, England, Israel , India and Peru, working alongside other wildlife artists to raise money for conservation of threatened habitats.
