Hands-On Pruning Workshop – Saturday, May 16 at 10AM

Join Instructor Jennifer Kettell, consulting arborist from Radiant Leaf Pruning, for a hands-on workshop on pruning using the bushes in the landscape at the library. Flowering shrubs can be a bit more complicated than pruning trees. When shrubs have been improperly pruned or just left to their own devices, they begin to resemble what we refer to as “The Green Helmet.” Learn how to avoid The Green Helmet and maintain shrubs’ natural habits with selective and timely pruning.

Registration required – limited to 15 people.

Attendees will learn how to:

  • Improve the structure and aesthetics of a variety of shrub species at different stages of maturity
  • Understand the nuances of pruning timing
  • Choose appropriate tools and PPE
  • Make pruning cuts in accordance with the current ANSI A300 (Part 1) pruning standard, following the NATURAL pruning system.

Safety: For this hands-on workshop, attendees must wear safety glasses and work gloves (aka PPE). The instructor will have a limited number of PPE items/tools available to lend for this workshop. Attendees should bring hand pruning saws and pruners if they have any.
