Artist Statement:

Liisa Janelle is a local artist specializing in mixed media, collage and mosaic. Her work is inspired by a strong connection to nature and by hanging out with her three grandchildren whose sense of wonder provides a fresh perspective on the magic of everyday life. This collection- A Celebration of Everyday Life- is a tribute to finding the sacred in the simple- a cup of tea, the miracle of animals or a simple bouquet of flowers.

About ten years ago, Liisa started to feel a longing for more creativity in her life, which is when she started to experiment with different media. Retiring from a career in human resources management in 2024, she is devoting this chapter of life to creative exploration.

Largely self taught, Liisa acknowledges learning from some outstanding teachers, including Elizabeth St. Hilaire, collage artist, Solange Piffer, picassiette-style mosaic artist, and the Slow River Studio in Topsfield, Massachusetts. Most recently she has had the privilege to participate in a mentoring relationship with Kellie Day, a mixed media artist. That experience was transformative, giving her the confidence to own her identity as an artist.

Liisa lives in Georgetown with her husband and two cats.
