February 18 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Gretel Clark, beekeeper of 35 plus years, will present a talk on beekeeping.
Ms. Clark grew up on a farm in Connecticut. Since marriage she has lived in Europe, Africa, South America and all over the U.S. She has had up to 43 colonies with bee yards spread out over Hamilton, Ipswich and Essex but currently is down to 10 colonies now on her own 30 acres in Hamilton. Each year of the past decade has seen a dramatic loss of honey production. The presentation will address Colony Collapse Disorder, Bee Culture (the life cycle of the honey bee and how it functions as a community), and how a bee keeper “keeps” her bees. There will be time for questions and refreshments. This is open to the public free of charge.
This program is sponsored by the Garden Friends of Georgetown.
