1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Research shows that reading with your child will build their vocabulary skills, increase reading readiness, and create empathy for others. Here at the Georgetown Peabody Library, we encourage you to read 1000 books with your child before they head off to Kindergarten! If you read just 1 book a night, you will have read 365 books in a year. That’s 730 books in 2 years and 1,095 books in three years. So let’s get started.

How does it work?
⦁ Children, birth through entering Kindergarten, are invited to participate.
⦁ Read any book to your child and record on:
-your paper log
-an online program at ⦁ https://georgetownpl.beanstack.org
– the Beanstack App
⦁ You can re-read books and count them each time.
⦁ Each time you read 100 books go the Children’s Room to add a sticker to the progress wall and pick up another reading log,
⦁ Upon getting to 1000 books we will have a free book for your child.
⦁ Complete the 1000 book challenge at your own pace.
