Please join us on Wednesday, May 30 for a talk with two local authors: Byfield resident Myfanwy Collins and Gloucester resident Michael Schiavone. It’s always fascinating to hear writers talk about their creative process – this month you get to hear two! The event runs from 7:00 – 8:30 pm, and in addition to remarks by both authors, will include Q & A and book signing. Books will be available for sale.

Darrell Eifert Stephanie Naffah

Two artists are exhibiting their photographs this month at the Georgetown Library. Darrell Eifert’s, photos are upstairs in the non-fiction area of the library, and Stephanie Naffah’s photos are downstairs in the meeting room.

If anyone is interested in having their art displayed at the library, come in and talk to a member of staff. We have applications and copies of our display policy available at the circulation desk.

Volunteer Opportunity-Friends Book Sale

Volunteers are needed to assist the Friends with their upcoming Book Sale. Friday May 18, 12-5 is when you are needed to help set up the meeting room, and bring out boxes of books from the Friends’ storage room. After that, we unpack and arrange the books on tables in preparation for the Book Sale the next day. Any amount of time you can help is appreciated.

The Book Sale will be Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 9-1 with the Bag Sale on Monday, May 21 from 2-5. Call the library at 978 352 5728 to sign up to help or just show up! Thanks in advance.

Young Adult Book Club May 29th 3-4pm

The Book club meets the Last Tuesday of every month from 3 to 4pm unless otherwise noted. Click here if you want to see the books that will be discussed. The group is open to students in grade 7 to 12. We usually discuss one or two books but discussion is not limited to the listed readings. Refreshments are also provided as well as time and material to make some artistic scribbles. The book club will not be held if local schools or library is closed due to weather. Those interested in participating will have to get their own copy of Bitterblue.

Brunch with the Author

This coffee program is sponsored jointly by the Friends of the Georgetown Peabody Library, Inc. and the American Association of University Women.

Wine Tasting-April 28

It’s that time of the year again! The Friends of the Georgetown Peabody Library, Inc. is once again hosting the 7th Annual Wine Tasting. Saturday April 28, 2012 from 6-9 pm at the library. Wines from Georgetown Liquors, cheese, crackers and other snacks courtesy of our Friends, silent auctions on flower arrangements courtesy of Nunan’s and the Country Gardeners, door prizes and great coffee and desserts. Enjoy jazz music by Keith Augeri Trio.

Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door, available at the library and Georgetown Liquors, East Main Street.

Wine Tasting 101

On Tuesday, April 24, from 6-7:30 there will be a class for adults on tasting Wine. If you would like to know more about wine but have little to no knowledge or if you have ever wandered into a wine shop and become confused by a bewildering array of wines, this class is for you. Learn what all the swirling and sniffing is about and about body, acidity, tannin, and other components of wine. During this 90-minute introductory seminar, you will evaluate three white wines and three red wines by sight, smell, and taste. This program is ideal for novices, as well as for wine enthusiasts looking to expand their knowledge.

Hosted by Georgetown resident, Ron Homan, Certified Wine Educator, this class is an ideal introduction to get you ready for the Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser on Saturday, April 28th from 6-9pm.

This class is limited to 18 participants, you must be 21 or older to attend and registration is required. Please come in to the library or give us a call to register, 978-352-5728.
