Unpacking the Grace Spofford Marionette Collection

April 22, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Georgetown Historical Society will hold an unpacking and examination event in the Library’s Meeting Room on Saturday, April 22 from 9AM to 12PM.

Kathleen Ivanowski who lives in Western Massachusetts is the owner of around 70 marionettes that were crafted by Grace Spofford who lived in Georgetown in the early part of the 20th Century. Grace was born in Boxford in 1887 and lived much of her life in Georgetown at 13 Nelson Ave. She was an artist, music composer, and also a telephone operator. The Georgetown Historical Society owns two of her watercolors.

Kathleen purchased Grace’s marionettes some years ago. She wants our members and other interested members of the community to see these treasures. She and her husband will bring them to Georgetown for all of us to see. They are in various conditions and some require restringing. This will not be an organized program or presentation but rather a chance to see and appreciate Grace’s handiwork.
