Teen Writing Workshop

erinAre you a young, aspiring writer? Looking for some tips on publishing, critiques on your work, or more? Join YA author Erin Bowman (author of the Taken trilogy) for a hour-long writing workshop! The workshop will take place at the library on Mon., Sept. 8 at 3 PM.

Attendees should bring their own writing tools (laptop, journal and pencil, etc), and arrive prepared to write!

 Workshop is open to registrants ages 13-22.  Registration is REQUIRED as space is limited!

This program is open to teens in grades 6 through 12.

Teen Summer Reading Kickoff!


Come to the library on Monday, June 23 between 2:30 – 4 pm to make your own ice cream sundae and sign up for summer reading! Those who sign up will be able to pick a prize and enter a contest to win more! You’ll also be able to get the teen summer reading program schedule. This kickoff event is for teens ONLY.

Teen summer reading sign-ups are for those entering grades 7 – 12. 

Can’t attend and want to sign up? Stop by and see Sarah or sign up at the Main Desk or sign up online (www.readsinma.org/georgetown) any time starting June 23.

Hula Hoop Program

hulahoopsLove hula hooping?? Katie from Pinto Bella Hoops will be at the library on Wed., April 23 at 3 pm to give a teaching demonstration on how to hula hoop! Everyone will play with the different types and sizes of hoops where Katie will either teach basic hooping or give challenges and tricks to more experienced hoopers.

Everyone will then get together for a couple group games that teach teamwork and creativity with the hoop and then the program will end with a surprise! Don’t miss out!

PLEASE NOTE: This program is for those in grades 4 and up. The presentation itself is best for mid elementary school through high school.

Frozen Movie Event

frozenposterThe Georgetown Library will be showing Frozen (PG) twice in April! The first screening is on April 16 at 2:30pm and is for teens only in grades 6 -12. The second screening is on April 25 at 2pm and all ages are welcome! Below is a summary of the movie:

Fearless optimist Anna sets off on an epic journey-teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff and his loyal reindeer Sven-to find her sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom.

Divergent Release Party

Join us at the library on Tues., March 18 at 2:30 pm to celebrate the upcoming movie release of Divergent with faction temporary tattoos, trivia, and snacks! The winners of trivia will receive movie passes (just in time for the movie!)

Comic Book Workshop

                  Avengers Assemble: Super Heroes as Modern Mythology

Presented by Dana Perkins, writer of The Mighty Thor saga (published by Marvel Comics)

ComicsJoin us at the library as we discuss the pop culture phenomenon known as Super Heroes, from their not-so humble beginnings in the Golden Age of comics, to the rise of Marvel in the Sixties, to their current incarnations today with a special emphasis on The Mighty Thor and The Avengers. Then, have fun creating your own characters and comic strip!

This program is for those in grades 5 and up. Registration is required.
