2015 Friends Book Sale & Craft Fair

It’s time for the Friends of the Georgetown Peabody Library’s annual book sale, when we
clear out all the books we’ve been saving year round – just for this event!

Everything must go!

Friday, Sept. 18 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm
Special promotion on Friday night, join the Friends and get 5 books free!
Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10 am to 2 pm
Sunday, Sept. 20 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm

There will be a bag sale on Monday afternoon. Books will be sold for $3.00 a bag.

There will be a wide variety of hardcover and paperback books available.
Prices range from 25 cents to $2.

Proceeds from the book sale benefit library programs and museum passes.

Craft Fair will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Book Donations

Spring cleaning? Looking to donate your books to the library? The Georgetown Peabody Library and the Friends of the Library are glad to accept donations for our Book Nook and our book sales. They help us to support programming and museum passes.

bookPlease observe the following guidelines:

• Please bring your donations during library hours. Do not leave donations outside or in the book return bins.

• Books should be gently used, clean, and free from mold.

• We cannot accept phone books, encyclopedias, outdated computer manuals, Readers Digests, or VHS tapes. Please take those to one of the many recycling facilities in town.

Books in Bloom – Saturday, March 21

The Friends of the Georgetown Peabody Library are hosting a “Books in Bloom” fundraising event on Saturday, March 21st, from 6:30 – 9:00 pm.

“Books in Bloom” features floral arrangements that represent books and other media available at the library. Local floral designers – amateur and professional – are welcome to participate. The displays will be placed throughout the library that evening for guests to admire. Many of the displays will be available for raffle.

Tickets are $20. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

Those interested in submitting a floral arrangement can contact Joan Chatterton at jdchat@verizon.net or Gloria Swanbon at grammyglorias@aol.com. To purchase tickets, please contact Betty Hastings at betty.hastings@verizon.net. The Library also has a limited number of tickets to purchase.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Library children’s programs, the museum pass program, and the purchase of books and other resources!

Georgetown Quilters Exhibition

IMG_1768The Friends of the Georgetown Peabody Library are pleased to present the Third Annual Georgetown Quilters Exhibition. These quilts will be on display during the months of February and March. There will be a reception on Saturday, February 7 from 9am to 1pm where you can meet the quilters who will be on hand to talk about their work and answer questions. Refreshments will be served.

An additional attraction that day will be A Celebration for George Peabody, the benefactor of the Library, on the anniversary of his 220th birthday! Come and have a piece of cake and tour the Peabody artifacts and memorabilia as well as the quilts.

This event is free and open to the public. All are welcome to stop by.

May Local Authors’ Event: Scott Jones

ScottThe Friends of the Georgetown Peabody Library are pleased to host Scott Jones on Wednesday, May 28 from 6:30 – 8 pm. Scott Jones is the owner of Georgetown Fun (www.georgetownfun.org) , where he publishes information about events taking place in Georgetown. He is also an amateur photograph, DJ, and sound and lighting expert. Through his Georgetown Fun activities, Scott works on and photographs many town events. He has recently published a photographic guide to Georgetown, filled with event and location photographs as well as useful information about the town.

Join us for a lively discussion, Q & A, and book signing! There will be light refreshments and books for sale. All proceeds from the book sales help to pay to support Scott’s Georgetown Fun volunteer activities.

April Local Authors’ Event: Dyan deNapoli

dyanThe Friends of the Georgetown Peabody Library are pleased to host Dyan deNapoli aka “The Penguin Lady” on Wednesday, April 30 from 6:30 – 8 pm. deNapoli will talk about her book, The Great Penguin Rescue. Dyan’s mission is to raise awareness and funding to protect penguins – to that end, she donates 20% of the proceeds from her book and every appearance to penguin rescue groups.

March Local Authors’ Event: Connie Hambley

authorvisitThe Friends of the Georgetown Peabody Library are pleased to host local author, Connie Hambley on Wednesday, March 26 from 6:30 – 8 pm. Connie Hambley is the author of The Charity which tells the story of a Hamilton, Massachusetts native, Jessica Wyeth. Jessica cannot connect the death of her family to being framed for murder. Her search for truth uncovers a network of powerful people with secret ties to terrorism.

February Local Authors’ Event: Terry Palardy

The Friends of the Georgetown Peabody Library are pleased to host a return visit of Terry Palardy on Wednesday, February 26 from 6:30 – 8:00. Palardy has published the sequel to her memoir Multiple Sclerosis, Melanoma and More. It was written in response to readers’ requests for more time spent with Terry and her husband Rick as they walk together on the path toward their happily ever after.

Palardy will also discuss her newest work, The Quilter’s Quarters. This event is open to the public and free of charge. Join us for a lively discussion, Q & A, and book signing. There will be light refreshments and books for sale.
